High School Students (Dual/Concurrent Enrollment)

Delgado Concurrent/Dual Enrollment Program

High School Concurrent/Dual Enrollment

The Dual Enrollment Program prepares students to become tomorrow’s leaders through a rigorous and relevant curriculum that stresses high academic achievement. This unique opportunity to begin your college education while still in high school facilitates the transition from high school to post-secondary education and consequently, earlier graduation from college.

Delgado Dual Enrollment allows you to earn college credits in your Career Pathway, which develop the qualifications necessary to obtain employment in occupations that are in demand in the current labor market.

Juniors and seniors with at least a 2.0 GPA are eligible to participate in dual enrollment courses. Students can earn college credit from Delgado Community College, and may earn Carnegie Units in certain courses from their high schools. Funding for students eligible for the Louisiana Early Start Program is limited to one three-credit hour course each semester. Those students wishing to take more than three credit hours are responsible for any additional tuition and fees. Concurrent enrollment students are limited to four credit hours during their first semester and may take up to seven credit hours each subsequent semester, if eligible. Delgado Community College dual enrollment courses are offered at participating high schools on their campus, and are taught by instructors certified to award college credit. Students may be eligible to take dual enrollment courses at a Delgado location if approved by their high school and space in those classes are available.

High school students are currently defined as students on track for completing Core Four requirements, or earning a Career Diploma. Students may be eligible for tuition assistance through the Louisiana Early Start Program. This “funding” is available to students who have earned a composite score of 14 on the PLAN or 15 on the ACT. Students wishing to take courses that transfer to other colleges must meet the individual ACT or Delgado Placement Test Score required for entry into those courses. Applications must be delivered to Delgado, and all other Louisiana Early Start eligibility must be met to receive this form of tuition assistance. Books, fees, and transportation are the responsibility of the student.

Interested students should contact their high school counselor or dual enrollment office for an application, deadlines and specific information on eligibility to the Louisiana Early Start Funding. The following documents are required:

  • Louisiana Early Start application
  • Official high school transcript
  • ACT or PLAN scores
  • Parent, counselor and student signatures
