MATH 120 - Contemporary Math

3 lecture hours, no lab hours, 3 credit hours

Introduction to topics in contemporary mathematics. Topics may include the theory of finance, perspective and symmetry in art, formal Aristotelian logic, graph theory, probability and odds, statistics, elementary number theory, optimization, numeracy in the real world, and historical topics in mathematics that have influenced contemporary mathematics. (Topics will vary). Prerequisite(s):
  • Completion of MATH 097, MATH 098, MATH 114, or SPSM 099 with a minimum grade of “C” OR;
  • Accuplacer Next Generation QAS Placement Test score of 250 or higher OR;
  • Accuplacer Next Generation AAF Placement Test score of 200 or higher OR;
  • ACT Mathematics score of 19 or higher OR;
  • High school transcript less than two years old with the completion of Algebra I. Algebra II, and Geometry with grades of “C” or higher AND a cumulative GPA of 2.8.
