DMSU 221 - Physics and Instrumentation I2 lecture hours, no lab hour, 2 credit hours An overview of high frequency wave behavior, pulse echo theory, reflection, acoustical impedance, transducer, TGC as well as the basic components and operation of A-mode, B-mode, TM-mode and real-time instrumentation. Students learn how element design and frequency influence axial resolution as well as lateral resolution. The course includes an introduction to how operator controls of ultrasound instrumentation influence image quality. Note(s): The prerequisite for all first-semester courses is admission into the Ultrasound program. The prerequisite for all second- and third-semester courses is successful completion of all previous courses in the Ultrasound program.
