ENGL 101 - English Composition I3 lecture hours, no lab hours, 3 credit hours [LCCN: CENL 1013]
Introduces students to the critical thinking, reading, writing and rhetorical skills required in the college/university and beyond, including citation and documentation, writing as process, audience awareness, and writing effective essays. Prerequisite(s): An ACT English score of 18-24; or, a score of 13 or higher on the Delgado English readiness assessment survey; or, a score of 86-117 on the Accuplacer Sentence Skills placement exam; or, a score of 250 or higher on the Accuplacer Next Generation Writing placement exam combined with a score of 256 or higher on the Accuplacer Next Generation Reading placement exam; or, an ACT Reading score of 17 or higher combined with a score of 250 or higher on the Accuplacer Next Generation Writing placement exam. Note(s): Students with higher scores on the ACT English exam or the Delgado English readiness assessment survey should contact an advisor to see if they qualify for ENGL-101 Honors. Additionally, students with higher scores on the ACT English may be able to bypass ENGL-101 and enroll in ENGL-102. Contact an advisor or the English department for more information.
