PRNU 106 - Medical Surgical Nursing I5-12-8 Concurrent theory and clinical/lab experience applying the nursing process to meet basic physical and psychosocial needs of patients in a variety of health care setting with emphasis on the geriatric adult. Medical terminology, physical assessment skills, nursing care formulation, documentation, and computer skills are taught in this course. Biopsychosocial changes associate with aging along with legal/ethical aspects related to aging are discussed. The student will be introduced to IV therapy, infection control, pre-op and post-op care, the assessment of the genitourinary system in regards to elimination, and essential concepts related to decubitus and wound care, dietary requirements, and medication administration. Prerequisite(s): PRNU 103 and NURS 110. Corequisite(s): Co-requisite: NURS 111.
