DEGREE: ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE
DIVISION: SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS

The Science Laboratory Technology Program focuses on providing students the necessary skills and techniques for standard, everyday science laboratory work.  Science Laboratory Technology addresses the fundamental principles of the biological and physical sciences and emphasizes analytical laboratory techniques and applications, specifically in the realms of chemistry and biology. The curriculum enables the student to explore a variety of laboratory testing techniques and to prepare and operate various types of tools and electronic analysis equipment. Science Laboratory Technology Programs prepare graduates for employment in chemical, biological, and associated science laboratories.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the Science Laboratory Technology Associate of Applied Science program, the learner will be able to:

  • Use fundamental knowledge of chemistry and biology to explain the scientific principles involved in the science laboratory (SLO #1)
  • Explain the function of a science laboratory technician in the workplace (SLO #2)
  • Describe, operate, and maintain tools and equipment in the science laboratory (SLO #3)
  • Develop and adapt protocols to obtain and interpret data (SLO #4)
  • Demonstrate oral and written communication skills and technical skills needed to perform as an entry-level laboratory technician (SLO #5)
