CERTIFICATE OF TECHNICAL STUDIES PROGRAM
DIVISION: ALLIED HEALTH
The Certificate of Technical Studies program in Medical Registration Specialist provides academic and clinical education in inpatient and outpatient registration. This program prepares the student for a patient contact position providing customer service assistance as the patient prepares to receive health care services. The goal of the Certificate of Technical Studies program is to provide students with competencies necessary to enter the workforce in as vital members of the health care team.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the Medical Registration Specialist Certificate of Technical Studies program, the learner will be able to:
- Validate patient demographics, clinical, and financial information in the patient registration process (SLO # 1)
- Calculate patient and payer financial responsibilities (SLO # 2)
- Articulate positive verbal and written communication skills (SLO # 3)
- Create a medical office schedule (SLO # 4)
- Comply with legal, ethical, accreditation, and certification standards as these relate to access, disclosure, privacy, and security of health information (SLO # 5)
- Collaborate to resolve health information challenges in a changing healthcare environment (SLO # 6)
- Utilize computer hardware and software applications such as the internet, Microsoft Office, learning management systems, and health information technology systems (SLO # 7)
