CAREER AND TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
DIVISON: ALLIED HEALTH
The goal of the certificate program is to provide a quality education that produces successful phlebotomists for New Orleans and Louisiana. Career entry competencies expected of graduates include collecting, transporting, handling, and processing blood specimens for analysis in the clinical laboratory. As responsible members of the health care team, graduates must also demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills. The courses in the program adhere to the essentials and guidelines for education programs for the phlebotomy technician as advised by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the Phlebotomy Technician Career and Technical Certificate program, the learner will be able to:
- Comply with practice and policies that maintain ethical and professional behavior (SLO # 1)
- Collaborate with other health care workers using effective and appropriate verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills (SLO # 2)
- Comply with established laboratory safety regulations (SLO # 3)
- Choose proper collection method and supplies for tests ordered and unique patient circumstances (SLO # 4)
- Perform specimen collection as outlined in standard operating procedure (SLO # 5)
