TECHNICAL DIPLOMA PROGRAM
SCHOOL OF CONSTRUCTION ARTS AND TECHNICAL STUDIES
The Barbering program is designed to prepare students to work efficiently in the industry of Barber-Styling. This competency-based program includes classroom instruction and practical/lab experience under supervision of the instructor. Practical skills are developed through experience in a school-based, on-site shop which is equipped and managed according to industry standards by the students with instructor supervision. Upon completion of this program, which is approved by the LA State Board of Barber Examiners and meets the 1500-hour requirement, students are eligible to take the LA State Board of Barber Examiners licensure examination. Delgado Community College is licensed to provide instruction in Barbering by the Louisiana State Board of Barber Examiners, 4626 Jamestown Avenue, Suite 1, Baton Rouge, LA 70808, Phone (225) 925-1701.
The program has additional admissions criteria, governed by regulations of the Louisiana State Barbering Board. Prospective students must contact the Cosmetology/Barbering department housed in Delgado’s School of Construction Arts and Technical Studies to initiate the application procedure.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the Barber-Styling Technical Diploma program, the learner will be able to:
- Manage and operate a barbershop (SLO # 1)
- Apply safety and sanitation procedures in accordance with Louisiana Board of Barber Examiner regulations (SLO # 2)
- Apply appropriate barber-stylist techniques depending on client need(s) (SLO # 3)
- Demonstrate appropriate use of barber-stylist tools and implements (SLO # 4)
