CERTIFICATE OF TECHNICAL STUDIES PROGRAM
SCHOOL OF CONSTRUCTION ARTS AND TECHNICAL STUDIES

The Precision Machining program prepares individuals to shape metal parts on machines such as lathes, grinders, drill presses, and milling machines. Computer numerical controlled machines are also introduced. The program includes making computations for dimensions and cutting feeds and speeds, using precision measuring instruments, laying out parts, and heat treatment of metals.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the Precision Machining Certificate of Technical Studies program, the learner will be able to:

  • Apply fundamental safety practices, quality control, and inspection procedures required by the industry for manufacturing production (SLO # 1)
  • Interpret blueprints, working drawings, and sketches for part production using machine shop equipment (SLO # 2)
  • Perform calculations and use precision instruments to demonstrate accuracy in measurements required to produce parts to strict tolerances (SLO # 3)
  • Operate manual and computer number control (CNC) lathes and milling machines to produce parts that meet industry standards (SLO # 4)
  • Illustrate proficiency in problem solving, troubleshooting, and skills required for successful employment in the manufacturing industry (SLO # 5)
