DIVISION: COMMUNICATION
The American Sign Language Interpreting Studies Department recognizes that a sociolinguistic and cultural approach to the instruction of signed language, specifically American Sign Language, best models the language used in conversation, formally and informally, by the Deaf community and is incorporated into all educational components of the ASLS curriculum. The American Sign Language Interpreting degree provides academic instruction in the field of sign language interpreting. The program prepares interpreters to work in a variety of entry level settings with a diverse population. Upon completion of the degree, students are prepared to take the national certification knowledge examination and to seek advanced degrees.
