General Studies, C.G.S.


DEGREE: CERTIFICATE OF GENERAL STUDIES
SCHOOL OF LIBERAL ARTS, SOCIAL SCIENCES, AND EDUCATION

The Certificate of General Studies is designed to provide students with a broad foundation of fundamental academic courses. It offers students the opportunity to increase readiness for collegiate study while exploring career pathways. It allows students who intend to transfer to senior colleges the opportunity to choose courses that meet the admissions requirements of the receiving institution.

Students should meet with a General Studies advisor to determine an educational plan.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the Certificate of General Studies program, the learner will be able to:

  • Read, summarize, and discuss college-level material across the curriculum (SLO #1)
  • Communicate effectively in written English across the curriculum (SLO #2)
  • Perform course-specific mathematical problems (SLO #3)
  • Apply critical thinking skills across the curriculum (SLO #4)
  • Utilize scholarly resources to research topics across the curriculum (SLO #5)
