CERTIFICATE OF TECHNICAL STUDIES PROGRAM
SCHOOL OF CONSTRUCTION ARTS AND TECHNICAL STUDIES

The Certificate of Technical Studies program in Electrician: Small Industrial equips students with the essential skills and technical knowledge required to work with industrial electrical systems, automation, and control equipment. The program covers both foundational and advanced topics, including electrical schematics, raceways, wiring, solid-state theory, motor controls, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). 

With a strong focus on practical application, students receive hands-on training to troubleshoot, install, and maintain electrical systems tailored to industrial automation. The program prepares graduates for entry-level positions in industrial environments, ensuring they can contribute to efficient, safe, and reliable automated operations in manufacturing, energy, and industrial facilities. 

Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the Electrician: Small Industrial Certificate of Technical Studies program, the learner will be able to:

  • Apply OSHA and National Electric Code (NEC) safety practices in industrial, electrical, and automation environments (SLO # 1)
  • Read, interpret, and analyze electrical blueprints, schematics, and control diagrams to support industrial automation (SLO # 2)
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial electrical wiring systems used in automation and control applications (SLO # 3)
  • Configure and apply programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and digital control systems in automated environments (SLO # 4)
  • Apply motor control principles, including solid-state devices, variable frequency devices (VFDs), and industrial motor operations (SLO # 5)
