Admissions


 

 

 

General Admission Requirements

  • An application for admission ($25 application fee/$50 international application fee) – the non-refundable fee is good for one fiscal year (fall through summer).
  • Immunization waiver form or evidence of two separate dates of vaccination against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) if born in 1956 or after AND proof of Tetanus/Diphtheria vaccination that is less than 10 years old.
  • Immunization waiver form or proof of vaccination against Meningococcal Disease (Meningitis) is required of all first-time freshmen, regardless of age.
  • Proof of registration with the military selective service for male applicants between ages 18 and 26 (in compliance with State Law R.S.17:3151).

Admission Deadlines

Admission applications are being accepted NOW for best selection of classes. The preferred method to apply for admission to the College is online at www.dcc.edu.

SPRING 2013 SEMESTER

Applications accepted during last chance registration, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., through June 4, 2013.

 

Provisional Admission

Students who are admitted provisionally have 30 days to provide all admissions requirements. NOTE: Students applying for federal financial assistance must submit all transcripts and selective service requirements before aid is processed. Please be advised that some programs have limited admission.

First-Time Freshman

A freshman student is a first-time student who has never attended an accredited college.
  • High school diploma
  • GED
  • High school transcript. If you are a graduate of a Louisiana high school May 2003 and after, you are not required to request your high school transcript. Your transcript will be forwarded via the Student Transcript System.
  • GED diploma, if applicable.
  • Delgado placement assessment, if applicable.
  • Immunization waiver form or immunization records, including Meningitis.
  • Selective Service Registration (males only).

Freshmen Orientation

Freshmen orientation is now online!  Our freshmen online orientation is designed to assist new students in making the transition to Delgado Community College.  All first time freshmen enrolled in a certificate or associate’s degree program are required to participate in the online orientation program. To access the online orientation, go to www.dcc.edu, click on Admissions tab, and select Orientation.

 

Transfer Students 

Who Fits This Status Records Needed to Clear Provisional Admission Status and Meet Admission Requirements
A transfer student is one who has attended another regionally accredited college or university. Transfer students fall into one of two categories: Transfer Degree or Certificate seeking, or transfer Non-Degree seeking.
  • An official transcript from all institutions previously attended (regardless of whether credits were earned). Visitors may submit a letter of good standing in place of an official transcript; however, an unofficial or official transcript must be reviewed for advising purposes.
  • Delgado placement assessment, if applicable.
  • Immunization waiver form or immunization records.
  • Selective Service Registration (males ages 18 - 25 only).
 

 

Records Needed to Register for Classes with Corequisites or Prerequisites

Transfer students must meet with an academic advisor for classes that have corequisites or prerequisites. Transfer students must bring to advisors an official or unofficial copy of a transcript or grade reports from all institutions previously attended to register for courses requiring corequisites or prerequisites. Students must provide these documents to demonstrate they meet course requirements so that advisors will have the information needed to assist with course selection. The OFFICIAL transcript must be received within 30 days of the first day of classes. NOTE: Students applying for federal financial assistance must submit all college transcripts before aid is processed.

Official Transcript Requirement 

Official transcripts will be evaluated during the student’s first semester at Delgado. Once the evaluation has been completed, an email notification will be sent to the student’s Delgado email addres . Inquiries about the use of a transfer course to meet degree requirements should be directed to the dean of the student’s major. 

 
Transfer-Suspension Students

Transfer students on suspension from another college or university are not eligible to attend Delgado Community College except under special conditions of enrollment. A written appeal to enroll is required. The appeal form is available in Delgado’s Admissions and Enrollment Services office. Details are available in Delgado’s Admissions and Enrollment Services office and in the College Catalog online at catalog.dcc.acalog.com.

 

Academic Amnesty

 If you earned poor grades while in college and have not attended any institution of higher education for at least three years, you are eligible to apply for academic amnesty during the first semester of enrollment at Delgado. Details are available in the Admissions and Enrollment Services office and the College Catalog online.

 

Placement Testing for Transfer Students

 Placement tests are required of transfer students who have not successfully completed developmental or college-level math and English courses with a grade of “C” or better within the last three years.

 

Re-admit Students

Re-admit students are students who have previously attended Delgado and Delgado is the last college attended.
  • If you have earned additional credit at another institution an official transcript from a college or university you previously attended (regardless of whether credits were earned).
  • Delgado placement assessment, if applicable.
  • Immunization waiver form or immunization records if applicable.
  • Selective Service Registration (males ages 18 - 25 only if applicable.)

 

Records Needed to Register for Classes with Corequisites or Prerequisites

Re-admit students must register in person for classes that have corequisites or prerequisites. Re-admit students must bring to advisors an unofficial copy of a transcript or grade report from all institutions attended since they last enrolled at Delgado. Students must provide documents to demonstrate they meet course requirements so advisors will have the information needed to assist with course selection. The student still has 30 days to provide OFFICIAL transcripts to Admissions and Enrollment Services. NOTE: Students applying for federal financial assistance must submit all college transcripts before aid is processed.

 

Placement Testing for Re-admit Students

Placement tests are required of re-admit students who have not taken an approved placement test within the past three years or who have not successfully completed developmental or college level math and English courses with a grade of “C” or better within the last three years.

  

Non-Matriculating Students

Who Fits This Status

Non matriculating students are students not pursuing an associate degree or certificate at Delgado.  Courses taken at Delgado are for professional enrichment only.  Non-matriculating students are not eligible for federal financial assistance.Non-matriculating students interested in taking courses with a prerequisite or corequisite must meet with an academic advisor to verify course eligibility.

Visiting Students

Who Fits This Status

Records Needed to Clear Provisional Admissions Status and Meet Admission Requirements

Visiting students are currently enrolled at another institution, but wish to take courses for one semester at Delgado, and will be returning to his/her home institution. Visiting students are not eligible for federal financial assistance.

  • Letter of Academic Status from institution currently attending.
  • Immunization waiver  form or immunization records.

 

International Students

Documents Needed to Enroll

An applicant seeking admission on a student visa must submit these items before SEVIS Form I-20 can be issued:

International students include those who have entered this country on a student visa and plan to attend Delgado.
  • Completed application form signed by the applicant. All questions must be answered.
  • $50 application fee (non-refundable).
  • Notarized Statement of Financial Support to show evidence of sufficient funds to cover all costs while studying in the United States.
  • Proof of immunization, if born after 1956, on the Delgado Proof of Immunization form. All first-time freshmen, regardless of age, are required to have the Meningococcal vaccine.
  • Official transcript from the last school attended (see “Foreign Transcript Evaluation” in the College Catalog.) **

**Non-degree seeking students enrolling only in the ESL program are not required to submit transcripts. Contact Admissions and Enrollment Services, (504) 671-5090. For information on the English Language Proficiency Test, call (504) 671-5080.

International Student Admission Deadlines

You must contact International Student Admissions for pre-approval before final admission is granted. International Student Admissions is located in Admissions and Enrollment Services, Student Services Center, Building 2, second floor. If you entered this country on a student visa and plan to attend Delgado, your application packet for admission must be received as follows:

High School Students

Juniors and seniors in high school have a unique opportunity to begin their college education while in high school through Delgado’s Dual/Concurrent Enrollment program. (See Dual and Cross-Enrollment pages for more information.)

 

Cross-Enrollment Students

Delgado has entered into agreements with UNO, SUNO, SLU and Nunez Community College so that students at each of these institutions may enroll in courses at Delgado. Under this program, Delgado students may also take courses at these schools. (See Cross-Enrollment pages for more information.)
